Cardinal Chronicle Pitcher of the Day: Cade Crossland Dominates in Peoria Shutout

Cade Crossland gave Peoria exactly what it needed Tuesday night.

Crossland, the MLB Pipeline No. 28 prospect in the Cardinals’ system, worked 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out nine in the Chiefs’ 2-0 win over West Michigan.

His final line: 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K

That is a dominant start.

Crossland controlled the game from the beginning, missed bats and gave Peoria length in a game where every run mattered. The Chiefs did not have much room to work with offensively, but Crossland made sure they did not need much.

Peoria scored twice in the sixth inning, and that was enough.

Jalin Flores doubled, scored and drove in his 82nd run of the season. Caden Ferraro went 3-for-4 and drove in the other run. Sammy Hernandez reached three times and stole two bases.

But the story was the pitching.

Crossland allowed one hit.
The Peoria staff allowed two hits.
The Chiefs struck out 12.
West Michigan never scored.

Bobby Olsen, Liam Best and Nelfy Ynfante finished the shutout, combining for 2.2 scoreless innings after Crossland left the game.

For Peoria, it was a clean 2-0 win.

For Crossland, it was one of his best outings of the season.

And for the Cardinals’ system, it was the best pitching performance of the night.
